Het incident vond plaats op zaterdag 29 juni 2024, toen de spelers door een afgelegen gebied reisden.<\/p>\n<p>De slachtoffers waren leden van de Division One-club FC Nania. Volgens lokale berichten werd de bus van het team in een hinderlaag gelokt door niet-ge\u00efdentificeerde gewapende mannen. In de daaropvolgende chaos verloor speler Adams Ibrahim het leven. Verschillende andere spelers liepen verwondingen op en werden naar een nabijgelegen ziekenhuis gebracht voor behandeling.<\/p>\n<p>Overlevende spelers beschreven een toneel van terreur. Uit vrees voor hun leven vluchtten velen uit de bus en ontsnapten naar een nabijgelegen bos om zich voor de aanvallers te verbergen. Zij bleven gedurende een aanzienlijke periode in hun schuilplaats voordat het veilig genoeg werd geacht om tevoorschijn te komen.<\/p>\n<p>De Ghana Football Association (GFA) heeft het tragische voorval officieel bevestigd. In een verklaring die op zondag 30 juni werd vrijgegeven, uitte de GFA zijn diepe schok en verdriet. \u201cWe zijn ontdaan door het nieuws over de aanval op FC Nania,\u201d aldus de verklaring. \u201cOnze gedachten zijn bij de familie van Adams Ibrahim en de hele ploeg in deze onvoorstelbaar moeilijke tijd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De aanval heeft een schokgolf door het Ghanese voetbal veroorzaakt. FC Nania, een club met een rijke geschiedenis die werd opgericht door de legendarische Ghanese ster Abedi Pele, was onderweg voor een competitiewedstrijd. Alle voetbalactiviteiten zijn in de nasleep van de tragedie opgeschort terwijl de gemeenschap in rouw is.<\/p>\n<p>De lokale autoriteiten hebben een onderzoek naar de aanval ingesteld. Er is nog geen motief vastgesteld en er zijn op dit moment geen arrestaties openbaar gemaakt.
