Pau Cubarsi has revealed that Robert Lewandowski was left stunned after his first-team debut for Barcelona, with the striker even asking about the defender’s age.
The teenage centre-back has broken into Xavi’s side this season and quickly caught the eye with a calm and mature display on the ball. Cubarsi, who is still only 17, said his performance was enough to make Lewandowski question whether he was really that young.
“Lewandowski asked me how old I was,” Cubarsi explained, admitting the Poland international could not hide his surprise at what he had seen from the youngster.
Cubarsi also shared a separate story from the training ground involving Lamine Yamal, revealing that the winger did not let an awkward moment pass without making the most of it.
According to Cubarsi, Yamal “teased me all week” after a training incident in which the teenager was left embarrassed during a session. The defender said his team-mate repeatedly brought it up, turning it into a running joke around the squad.
The revelations underline how quickly Cubarsi has settled into Barcelona’s senior group, earning respect from experienced stars such as Lewandowski while also getting a taste of the dressing-room humour from fellow young talents like Yamal.
