Pep Guardiola remains positive after Man City draw leaves title race tight

Pep Guardiola expressed a notably positive outlook following Manchester City’s 2-2 draw away at Sunderland on April 15, despite the result allowing Arsenal to extend their lead in the Premier League title race.

The draw left City four points behind Arsenal with six games remaining. City took the lead through Sergio Agüero in the 15th minute, but Sunderland quickly responded with goals from Cristian Rodríguez and Steven Fletcher before the break. Agüero netted his second late on to secure a point for City, who remain in pursuit of the title.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola acknowledged the disappointment of dropping points but stressed the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. “We showed character to come back into the game and get a draw. It’s not the ideal result, but there is still plenty to play for,” he said.

The City manager also highlighted the physical and mental challenges of successive away fixtures, emphasizing that the team must stay focused as the title race intensifies. “The Premier League is tough, and every point counts. We remain confident and will keep pushing until the end,” Guardiola added.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s win over West Bromwich Albion means the gap has widened, but Guardiola’s optimism suggests City are far from conceding the title. The Spaniard remains convinced that his side can overcome the deficit, pointing to the resilience his team has shown throughout the campaign.

With six crucial fixtures left, including key matches against direct rivals, Manchester City looks set to continue its pursuit of Premier League glory amid a competitive and unpredictable run-in.
