Real Madrid May Revive Pursuit of Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate

Real Madrid could be ready to step back into the market for a central defender this summer, with Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté again emerging as a possible target.

Madrid have been forced to juggle their back line for large parts of the season due to injuries, and the club’s planning for next year includes the idea of adding another top-level centre-back. While there is still work to do on other areas of the squad, the defensive picture remains a priority for the recruitment team.

Konaté, 25, has long been admired in Madrid. He fits the profile the club often looks for: elite level experience, room to improve, and the pace and power to handle the demands of playing a high line. At Liverpool he has developed into a key option, especially in big matches, where his physical presence and ability to defend space can make a major difference.

There is also a contract angle that could influence any renewed interest. Konaté’s current deal runs until 2026, meaning Liverpool are approaching the period where they will want clarity—either a new agreement or a clear plan to avoid losing value. If talks were to stall, the situation could quickly draw attention from Europe’s biggest clubs.

For Madrid, that type of opening matters. The club are usually patient and prefer to move when the conditions are right, rather than forcing a deal at any cost. They have shown in the past they are willing to wait for a player’s contract cycle to develop, especially when they believe the target is a long-term fit.

Liverpool, though, are not expected to make things easy. Konaté is viewed as part of their core group, and replacing him would be expensive. The club would likely demand a significant fee, particularly with Premier League prices continuing to rise for defenders of his level.

Even so, Madrid’s interest is unlikely to disappear if they decide a new centre-back is needed. With the club weighing options at the back and monitoring several profiles, Konaté remains one of the standout names who could realistically be available if the right conditions fall into place.
