Real Madrid’s preparations for a summer rebuild are already taking shape, and one of their key targets has been told to make a decision soon.
The club has been tracking Bayern Munich left back Alphonso Davies for several windows and remains keen to bring him to the Bernabéu. But with his contract situation still unresolved and the new season approaching fast, Madrid are not willing to wait indefinitely.
Davies’ deal in Germany runs into its final year, and Bayern are pushing for an extension. Madrid, meanwhile, have made it clear they will only move ahead if there is a clear path to an agreement. The message to the player’s camp is straightforward: either commit to the move and help make it happen this summer, or Madrid will shift focus to other plans.
It is understood Madrid see the Canadian as a long-term solution on the left side of defense, where the club has relied heavily on Ferland Mendy and, at times, on makeshift options. Davies’ pace and attacking style fit the profile Madrid want as they shape a squad built for the next cycle, not just the next season.
However, the Spanish giants are also determined not to be drawn into a drawn-out saga. If negotiations drag on or if Bayern’s demands become too high, Madrid are prepared to keep their powder dry and explore alternatives. There is also the possibility of waiting and attempting a free transfer in 2025, but only if the player gives strong assurances and does not use Madrid’s interest as leverage.
The stance reflects a broader change in approach at the club. Madrid have been willing to play the long game for the right players, but they also want deals handled quickly and cleanly, especially in a summer when several positions could be addressed. With other targets on the list and budgets to manage, the club’s hierarchy prefer certainty over noise.
Bayern, for their part, are expected to keep pressing Davies to stay, and they still have time to convince him with a new contract and a central role. But Madrid’s position puts pressure on the full back: a move to Spain may still be on the table, yet it comes with a clear requirement to decide sooner rather than later.
For now, the ball is in Davies’ court. Madrid’s interest is real, but so is the deadline they have set behind the scenes as they look to mark the start of a new era with smart, decisive recruitment.
