Hervé Renard has spoken about the “towel” incident that drew attention during the Africa Cup of Nations final, saying the moment was misunderstood and ended up causing confusion.
The former Morocco coach explained that what happened had nothing to do with any strange beliefs, stressing that the episode was simply an “embarrassment” that was blown out of proportion after the match.
Renard’s comments come as the scene from the final continued to circulate widely, with debate growing over its meaning and the reasons behind it.
He insisted there was no hidden message in the incident, adding that people read too much into it and turned it into a talking point when it did not deserve that level of attention.
