A regulations expert has explained whether the Royal Moroccan Football Federation could face punishment after sections of the crowd whistled during the Egyptian national anthem.
The incident took place before the match in Morocco, prompting questions on social media about possible disciplinary action from CAF.
The expert said sanctions in such cases depend on what is written in the match officials’ reports, especially the referee and match commissioner. If the reports confirm organised misconduct or repeated behaviour that breaches competition rules, the case can be opened and reviewed by CAF’s disciplinary bodies.
However, he stressed that the Moroccan federation is not automatically punished simply because whistles were heard in the stands. Any decision would require clear documentation and an official process, with the possibility for the federation to respond.
The expert also revealed that disciplinary measures, if applied, usually fall under crowd-control and security regulations, and can range from warnings and fines to stricter penalties in more serious or repeated cases.
For now, no confirmed sanction has been announced, and the matter remains linked to what is recorded in the official match reports and how CAF chooses to proceed.
