Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, has three possible paths in front of him to settle the future of national team coach Walid Regragui, after the recent debate around the team’s results and performances.
The first option is to keep Regragui in charge and continue with the current project, especially as he remains one of the most successful coaches in Morocco’s modern history after leading the Atlas Lions to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The second option would be to open a direct evaluation with the coach and his staff, and apply changes within the technical team or the working plan, without necessarily ending the head coach’s mission. This route would aim to correct issues while protecting the stability of the squad.
The third option is a complete change on the bench, by ending Regragui’s spell and appointing a new coach, should the federation decide that a fresh start is needed ahead of the upcoming challenges.
The same report also revealed that the federation’s decision on Regragui is expected to be taken after internal discussions, with Lekjaa holding the final say on the direction Morocco will choose for the next stage.
