UEFA has granted an exceptional request from Real Madrid regarding the scheduling of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Bayern Munich. The Spanish giants will now play the decisive match at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, instead of the initially proposed Tuesday, May 7.
The request was made due to the annual festival in the Madrid neighborhood of San Isidro, which is celebrated on May 15. City authorities expressed significant concerns over the logistical and security challenges of hosting two major events—the festival and a high-profile Champions League match—in such close succession. Real Madrid formally appealed to UEFA to move the fixture by one day to alleviate these pressures.
European football’s governing body has officially approved the change. This means the first leg will proceed as originally planned at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Tuesday, April 30. The return leg in Madrid will now take place on Wednesday, May 8. The kick-off time for both matches is set for 21:00 CET.
The winner of this heavyweight clash will advance to the Champions League final at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday, June 1, 2024. They will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Borussia Dortmund, who contest the other semi-final.
