Uli Hoeness blasts outrageous agent talks after Upamecano saga

Bayern Munich player Dayot Upamecano celebrates joyfully, wearing the team's red and white kit with a background of cheering fans.

Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness has hit out at what he called “outrageous” negotiations with agents, as the club continues talks over a new contract for Dayot Upamecano.

Hoeness criticised the influence and earnings of representatives, claiming some are “over-paid” and that discussions have become increasingly difficult for clubs at the top level. His comments come with Upamecano’s situation still unresolved, with Bayern working to secure the defender’s future.

The French centre-back remains under contract in Munich, but negotiations over an extension have turned into a high-profile talking point. Hoeness made it clear he is unhappy with how such talks now play out, pointing the finger at agents and the demands they bring to the table.

“These negotiations with agents are outrageous,” Hoeness said, referencing the broader trend in modern football and the challenges it creates for clubs trying to plan long-term.

Hoeness also complained about the money circulating around representation, arguing that it has reached a level he believes is unjustified. In his view, agents have become too powerful in the transfer and contract market, putting pressure on clubs even when they are trying to keep key players.

The renewed debate arrives as Bayern continue to manage several contract situations, with Upamecano’s talks now held up as an example of what Hoeness sees as a growing problem.
