Victor Osimhen has said Napoli “treated me like a dog” as he spoke about the racist TikTok video that targeted him while he was at the club.
The Nigeria striker, who joined Napoli in 2020 and won the Serie A title with them in 2022-23, was at the centre of a storm in September 2023 when a video was posted and then deleted on the club’s official TikTok account after he missed a penalty.
Osimhen has now spoken about the episode, saying it crossed a line and left him feeling disrespected. “They treated me like a dog,” he said, as he addressed how the situation was handled and the impact it had on him.
He also pointed to the wider issue of racism in football and made clear he did not feel protected in that moment. Osimhen added that the incident was not just about a social media post, but about the way he felt he was viewed and treated.
The striker’s comments come with the controversy still remembered as one of the most high-profile off-pitch moments of his time in Italy, during a period in which he remained one of Napoli’s leading players.
Osimhen’s future has been under regular discussion since then, but his focus in these remarks was on the personal fallout from the TikTok video and the relationship between player and club during the episode.
