The wife of the late Manchester United star, Liam Miller, has given birth to their child more than a year after his passing from cancer.
Clare Miller, Liam’s widow, welcomed a baby boy on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. The child has been named Leo, in a touching tribute to his father, whose middle name was also Leo.
Liam Miller, the former Republic of Ireland and Manchester United midfielder, died in February 2018 at the age of 36 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His death sent waves of grief through the football world, where he was remembered as a talented and dedicated player.
The couple already had three children together prior to Liam’s illness. Following his diagnosis, they made the decision to preserve his sperm, a choice that has now allowed Clare to bring their fourth child into the world.
A close family friend confirmed the news, stating, “This is a bittersweet moment for Clare and the family. There is immense joy at the arrival of a healthy baby boy, but it is, of course, mixed with the sadness that Liam is not here to share it. Little Leo is a beautiful blessing and a lasting part of Liam that will live on.”
Miller’s professional career included notable spells at Celtic, Manchester United, and several other clubs in England and Australia. He earned 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team.
