yamal becomes youngest ucl scorer in barcelona history

Lamine Yamal has written his name into the Barcelona history books, becoming the youngest goalscorer for the club in UEFA Champions League history. The 16-year-old prodigy achieved the feat during Tuesday’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

The match at the Parc des Princes was a tense affair, with PSG taking an early lead through a Randal Kolo Muani header in the 37th minute. Barcelona, however, showed their resilience. The Catalans leveled the score just before half-time, with a 48th-minute strike from Robert Lewandowski.

The second half saw Barcelona turn the game on its head. In the 61st minute, it was the teenage sensation Yamal who stepped up. Cutting in from the right flank, the winger unleashed a precise, curling left-footed shot that found the bottom corner, putting Barcelona ahead 2-1 and etching his name into the club’s European lore.

Barcelona’s third goal came from a familiar source, with veteran midfielder Ilkay Gündogan finding the net in the 77th minute to extend the lead. PSG managed a late consolation goal through a Ousmane Dembélé effort in the 89th minute, setting up a finely poised second leg at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on April 16.

At 16 years and 272 days old, Yamal’s goal broke the previous record held by Ansu Fati, who was 17 years and 40 days when he scored against Inter Milan in December 2019. The goal also makes Yamal the second-youngest scorer in the history of the Champions League knockout stages, behind only Bojan Krkic.

This historic moment adds another chapter to Yamal’s remarkable breakout season, confirming his status as one of world football’s most exciting young talents and a key figure in Barcelona’s present and future.
