Barcelona's Alvarez Deal Blocked by 100m Euro Fee

Barcelona’s hopes of signing Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez this summer have hit a major financial barrier. The Catalan giants have identified the Argentine World Cup winner as a primary target to bolster their attack, but the prohibitive cost of the deal is set to derail their plans.

According to reports from England, Manchester City have set a firm asking price of no less than 100 million euros for the 24-year-old striker. This figure is considered far beyond Barcelona’s current financial capabilities, effectively placing the transfer out of reach for the foreseeable future.

Alvarez’s situation at the Etihad Stadium is complex. While he is not actively seeking a departure and remains a valued member of Pep Guardiola’s squad, his role as understudy to superstar Erling Haaland has led to speculation about his long-term future. Barcelona’s interest is genuine, but their economic reality cannot accommodate City’s valuation.

The Spanish club’s sporting director, Deco, has reportedly already communicated this financial impossibility to Alvarez’s camp. The message was clear: while Barcelona admire the player, a move in the upcoming transfer window is not feasible due to the colossal transfer fee demanded by the Premier League champions.

This development forces Barcelona to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements. The club’s priority remains finding a long-term successor for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, but the pursuit of Julian Alvarez, for now, has reached a dead end, blocked by a 100 million euro wall.
