Paris Saint-Germain’s star forward Ousmane Dembélé has been offered to FC Barcelona, but a significant financial obstacle stands in the way of a potential return to Catalonia.
The information, confirmed by the Spanish newspaper “Sport,” reveals that intermediaries have presented Dembélé’s name to Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco. The proposal suggests the French international could rejoin the club he left in the summer of 2023 for a fee of 50 million euros.
However, the main issue is Dembélé’s current salary at PSG. The 26-year-old earns a substantial wage that far exceeds Barcelona’s current financial structure and strict La Liga salary limits. For the deal to have any chance, the player would need to accept a major reduction in his earnings.
Barcelona’s management appreciates Dembélé’s qualities and is aware that coach Hansi Flick is an admirer of the winger, having previously worked with him. Yet, the club’s dire economic situation makes the operation extremely complicated at this moment.
The Catalan club’s priority remains resolving their financial “Fair Play” issues with La Liga to be able to register new signings and contract renewals. Only after achieving this can they seriously consider any market moves, including a potential deal for Dembélé.
For now, Barcelona has taken note of the opportunity but has not moved forward with any negotiations. The ball is in Dembélé’s court; a return to the Camp Nou would require a considerable personal financial sacrifice from the player.
