The Laureus Academy announced its shortlists on Monday, with PSG nominated in the ‘World Team of the Year’ category. The French giants are recognized for completing an unprecedented domestic treble in the 2024/2025 season, clinching the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France, and the Trophée des Champions.
Meanwhile, Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal finds himself in contention for two major individual honors. The 17-year-old prodigy is nominated for both the ‘World Breakthrough of the Year’ and the coveted ‘World Sportsman of the Year’ awards. His nomination for the latter places him alongside established global superstars from various sports.
Yamal’s exceptional year was highlighted by his pivotal role in Spain’s triumphant UEFA Euro 2024 campaign. His performances earned him the Player of the Tournament award, cementing his status as one of the world’s most exciting talents. His continued brilliance for Barcelona throughout the 2024/2025 season further solidified his case.
The Laureus Awards, often described as the ‘Oscars of Sport,’ celebrate the most outstanding athletic accomplishments from across the globe. The winners are selected by the Laureus World Sports Academy, a jury comprised of 69 legendary sports figures.
