Casemiro has brought the curtain down on his Manchester United career in the most fitting way possible, leaving Old Trafford with a parting gift that sums up his time at the club.
The Brazilian midfielder, who joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, played his final match for the Red Devils on Sunday, May 25, 2025. It was an emotional afternoon at Old Trafford as the 33-year-old captained the side in what turned out to be a 3-1 victory over Chelsea.
Casemiro opened the scoring in the 12th minute, rising highest to meet a Bruno Fernandes corner and powering a header past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. The goal was his 15th for the club in all competitions and came at a moment that perfectly encapsulated his influence at United.
The first half saw United dominate possession, with Casemiro pulling the strings from deep. He completed 47 of his 52 passes before the interval and made three crucial interceptions to break up Chelsea attacks. Marcus Rashford doubled United’s lead in the 34th minute, slotting home after a swift counter-attack.
Chelsea pulled one back through Cole Palmer in the 58th minute, but United restored their two-goal cushion when Alejandro Garnacho finished clinically in the 71st minute. Casemiro was substituted in the 82nd minute to a standing ovation from all four corners of the stadium.
After the match, the club confirmed that Casemiro had agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent, with the midfielder set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on a three-year deal worth £30 million per season. The move was officially announced on Monday, May 26, 2025.
“It has been an honour to wear this shirt,” Casemiro said in a statement released by the club. “I gave everything for this badge and I leave with my head held high. The fans have been incredible from day one, and I will always carry them in my heart.”
United manager Erik ten Hag paid tribute to the veteran midfielder, saying: “Casemiro is a winner. He brought a mentality to this team that we needed. His experience and quality have been vital, and we wish him nothing but success in his next chapter.”
Casemiro leaves United after three seasons, having won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. He made 112 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing 9 assists. His departure marks the end of an era for a player who arrived as a five-time Champions League winner and leaves as a fan favourite at Old Trafford.
