Casemiro bids farewell to Manchester United in ideal fashion

Casemiro has brought the curtain down on his Manchester United career in the most fitting way possible, leaving Old Trafford with a parting gift that sums up his time at the club.

The Brazilian midfielder, who joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, played his final match for the Red Devils on Sunday, May 25, 2025, as the Premier League season came to a close. And he did not disappoint.

In what was his last appearance in a United shirt, Casemiro delivered a man-of-the-match performance, scoring once and providing an assist in a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford. The win ensured United finished the campaign in fourth place, securing Champions League football for the 2025-26 season.

The 33-year-old opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, rising highest to meet a Bruno Fernandes corner and powering a header past Bernd Leno. He then turned provider just before half-time, sliding a perfectly weighted pass through to Marcus Rashford, who made no mistake from close range.

Fulham pulled one back through Rodrigo Muniz in the 67th minute, but United restored their two-goal cushion when Alejandro Garnacho curled home a fine effort in the 81st minute. The result was never really in doubt.

After the final whistle, Casemiro was given a guard of honour by his teammates as he walked off the pitch for the last time. The Brazilian was visibly emotional, waving to all four corners of the stadium as the United faithful chanted his name.

“It has been an honour to wear this shirt,” Casemiro said in a statement released after the game. “I gave everything for this club, and I leave with my head held high. The fans have been incredible from day one, and I will always carry them in my heart.”

United manager Erik ten Hag paid tribute to the midfielder, saying: “Casemiro is a true professional and a winner. He brought so much experience and quality to this team. We will miss him, but we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career.”

Reports suggest Casemiro is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on a three-year deal worth £30 million, with an official announcement expected within the next 48 hours. The move will see him reunite with former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

During his three seasons at United, Casemiro made 112 appearances, scoring 14 goals and winning the EFL Cup in 2023. He leaves as a fan favourite, having played a key role in the club’s return to the Champions League.

For a player who arrived with a reputation as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, Casemiro’s farewell was nothing short of perfect. He walked off the pitch a winner, and the Old Trafford crowd made sure he knew exactly how much he meant to them.
