South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has reignited the debate around the organisation of the Africa Cup of Nations, continuing his criticism of what he described as Moroccan control over key tournament decisions.

Broos said he found it hard to accept that the competition was managed in a way that, in his view, did not give all teams the same conditions, stressing that “things are not normal” when the host country also has a strong influence over the tournament’s wider arrangements.

The Belgian coach repeated his complaint about travel and scheduling, pointing to situations where some teams had to deal with longer journeys and tighter turnarounds. He insisted this affected preparation and recovery, and argued that it should not happen in a major event like AFCON.

Broos also took aim at the Moroccan organising committee, saying it was difficult for him to understand how certain decisions were made, and suggesting that not everything was handled as fairly as it should be.

His comments add to the tension surrounding the tournament’s off-field issues, with the South Africa coach making it clear he will not back down from his position. “I will say what I think,” he stated, while calling for clearer and more balanced organisation for all participating nations.
