Morgan Rogers has been told he does not have the “soul” required to play for Manchester United after the Aston Villa forward was linked with a possible move to Old Trafford.
Rogers has enjoyed an impressive spell at Villa and his form has attracted attention, with reports connecting him to United as the club looks at options in attack.
However, former United midfielder Paul Scholes questioned whether the 21-year-old fits what the club should be looking for, suggesting the demands of playing for the Red Devils require a certain mindset and personality.
Scholes said Rogers “doesn’t have the soul” of a Manchester United player, despite acknowledging the qualities he has shown at Villa and the impact he has made in Unai Emery’s side.
The comments come as United continue to be linked with a number of targets ahead of the transfer window, with Rogers now included among the names being discussed as the club searches for solutions following an inconsistent season.
Rogers has been one of Villa’s standout performers and has played a key role in their strong campaign, which has kept them competing at the top end of the Premier League table and pushing for European football.
While the speculation is likely to continue, the criticism from one of United’s most respected former players underlines the scrutiny any potential signing faces, particularly when it comes to whether they match the identity and standards associated with the club.
