Samuel Eto’o was involved in a heated incident in the stands during the opening match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president seen venting his anger in front of Fouzi Lakjaa and CAF president Patrice Motsepe.
The game, played on Saturday, ended with hosts Morocco beating Cameroon 2-0.
As the match was being watched by a high-profile group, Eto’o appeared visibly furious and was caught on video shouting toward the officials’ area, while Lakjaa and Motsepe were seated close by. The scene quickly spread across social media, sparking wide debate.
What was revealed in the aftermath is that Eto’o’s outburst was linked to a problem with seating arrangements in the stands, after he was not placed in the section he believed was reserved for him among the invited VIP guests.
Security and organisers moved in to calm the situation, and the tension eased moments later, with Eto’o eventually staying in the same area as the senior CAF officials.
The attention, however, soon returned to the pitch, where Morocco confirmed their strong start to the tournament with two second-half goals to secure a 2-0 win and open their CHAN campaign on a positive note.
