Liverpool have completed the signing of young defender Wellity Lucky in a deal worth £1 million from ASI Abengourou, the club owned by former Chelsea and Newcastle striker Demba Ba.
The Premier League side have moved quickly to bring in the highly-rated teenager as they continue to add to their youth ranks. The agreement has been confirmed, with the defender set to make the switch to Anfield as part of Liverpool’s long-term planning.
Lucky, who has been developing with Abengourou, now gets the chance to continue his progress in England after Liverpool agreed the fee for the transfer.
The move also shines a light on Ba’s involvement away from the pitch, with the ex-Chelsea forward owning the club that has sold the player to Liverpool.
Liverpool’s latest addition underlines their focus on recruiting young talent with potential, and Lucky will now look to settle into his new surroundings as he begins the next stage of his career on Merseyside.
