The CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals delivered a tough blow for several Saudi Pro League names, after four players were eliminated with their clubs, while five others from the Roshn Saudi League are still in the race for a place in the semi-finals.
In the CAF Champions League, Al Ahly confirmed their progress at the expense of Al Hilal, to end the journey of Yassine Meriah and Jean Charles Castelletto, who both feature in the Saudi Pro League.
Meanwhile, Espérance fell in their quarter-final tie, which meant an early exit for Youcef Belaïli, another Roshn League star, as his side failed to reach the last four.
The fourth Saudi Pro League player to see his continental campaign end at this stage was Fiston Mayele, after his club was knocked out in the quarter-finals, bringing his African run to a halt.
Despite those exits, the quarter-finals still keep a strong Saudi Pro League presence alive. A group of five Roshn League players remain in contention with their respective clubs, keeping hopes of a Saudi Pro League imprint on the African semi-finals very much alive.
With the last-eight ties now settled, attention turns to the semi-final line-up, as the remaining five look to push on and keep their teams marching in Africa’s top club competitions.
