Moroccan authorities have arrested an Algerian YouTuber in Marrakesh and referred him to trial after what local reports described as an “indecent act.”

The incident took place at the end of last week in the Gueliz district, one of the busiest areas of the city, after the YouTuber appeared in public wearing women’s clothing and filmed the scene for social media.

Police moved in and detained him in Marrakesh, before the case was sent to the public prosecutor and then referred to court, according to the same reports.

The Moroccan authorities have not issued an official statement on the case, while the video circulated widely online and sparked a wave of criticism.

Legal proceedings are now set to take their course as the YouTuber faces trial in Morocco.
