Matthias Jaissle has forced an Al Hilal legend to issue a public apology following the club’s Asian Champions League triumph.
The Saudi Arabian giants secured the continental crown after a hard-fought campaign, but the celebrations were overshadowed by an unexpected internal dispute. According to sources close to the dressing room, the German head coach was left furious by comments made by the veteran star in the immediate aftermath of the final whistle.
The player in question, a long-serving icon at the club, had made remarks that Jaissle considered disrespectful towards the coaching staff and the team’s tactical approach during the tournament. Rather than letting the matter slide, the 36-year-old manager addressed it head-on.
“What was said did not reflect the spirit of this squad or the hard work everyone put in,” Jaissle reportedly told the player in a private meeting. “We win together, and we respect each other. An apology is necessary.”
The legend, who has won multiple league titles and continental honors with Al Hilal, initially resisted. However, after a tense 24 hours that included intervention from senior club officials, he relented. A formal apology was issued to the squad and the technical staff on Wednesday morning.
“I spoke out of emotion right after the win,” the player said in his statement. “I did not mean to undermine anyone’s efforts. I apologize to the coach, my teammates, and the fans. The title belongs to all of us.”
Jaissle accepted the apology publicly, stating that the matter was closed. “We are a family. Sometimes emotions get the better of us, but what matters is that we clear the air and move forward,” he told the club’s media channel.
The incident has not dampened the mood at the club, with preparations already underway for the FIFA Club World Cup in 2026. Al Hilal will represent Asia at the tournament, and Jaissle is keen to ensure full focus remains on that challenge.
“This is a big year for us,” the coach added. “We have the Asian title, and now we want to show the world what this team can do. Everyone must be on the same page.”
The legend, who had been tipped for a coaching role after retirement, is now expected to remain with the squad as a senior player for at least another season. Sources confirm that the relationship between him and Jaissle has been fully repaired.
