Henry names main culprit in Africa Cup final incidents

Smiling football legend with a bald head, dressed in a black jacket, against a blurred stadium backdrop, exuding warmth and enthusiasm.

Thierry Henry has pointed to the main person he holds responsible for the ugly incidents that followed the Africa Cup of Nations final, saying emotions inside the stadium were pushed “beyond control” by one key factor.

Speaking about what happened after the final whistle, Henry stressed that the game itself was not the real problem, but what came around it. In his view, poor handling of the situation in the stands created the tension that later exploded.

Henry said the authorities failed to manage the atmosphere properly, which allowed frustration to build throughout the night. He added that once that line was crossed, the scenes that followed became almost impossible to contain.

The former France forward’s comments come as the final continues to be discussed widely, with attention not only on what happened on the pitch, but also on the disorder that overshadowed the closing moments of the tournament.
