The Senegalese government has officially responded after 18 Senegal fans were arrested in Morocco following disturbances during the final.
In a statement, Senegal said it welcomed Morocco’s decision to release the 18 supporters who had been detained in the aftermath of the unrest.
The government also praised the cooperation shown by the Moroccan authorities in handling the case, as efforts continued to defuse the situation after the trouble linked to the final.
The arrests had sparked concern back home, prompting official follow-up from Senegal as it sought clarification and a swift resolution for its citizens.
With the fans now released, Senegal’s statement stressed the importance of keeping sporting events free from violence and called for calm and responsible behavior from supporters.
