Manchester United have stepped up their search for a new attacking focal point, with Cole Palmer emerging as a headline target despite the enormous obstacles involved in any deal for the Chelsea star.
United’s recruitment staff are understood to be exploring high-end options who can add goals and creativity from wide areas, and Palmer’s rise into one of the Premier League’s most decisive players has not gone unnoticed at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old has become central to Chelsea’s plans since arriving from Manchester City and is tied down on a long-term contract, leaving United facing a near-impossible task unless Chelsea’s stance softens.
That has not stopped United from considering what a move might look like. Palmer’s ability to play across the front line—and to influence games as both a scorer and a provider—fits what United are trying to build under Erik ten Hag. But Chelsea would be expected to demand one of the biggest fees in English football to even entertain discussions, and there is no suggestion Palmer is actively pushing to leave west London.
United are also balancing the realities of Financial Fair Play rules and the need to strengthen multiple positions. Any serious pursuit of Palmer would likely depend on significant player sales, while Chelsea, for their part, are not thought to be looking for a quick profit on a player they view as a cornerstone for the next few seasons.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid are once again being linked with a major move in the defensive market, with Trent Alexander-Arnold now featuring prominently on their long-term radar. Madrid have been planning for the future at right back, and Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at Liverpool has inevitably drawn attention across Europe.
The England international has been one of Liverpool’s defining figures in recent years, but with his current deal moving into its latter stages, Madrid believe there may be an opportunity to strike—either through negotiations for a transfer or by positioning themselves for a future free-agent approach.
Liverpool are expected to fight hard to keep Alexander-Arnold and will be desperate to avoid a repeat of recent high-profile exits. The club’s priority remains to agree an extension, yet Madrid’s strategy has often been to track elite talent early and be ready if circumstances change.
While neither potential deal is close to being completed, both situations underline the scale of ambition at United and Madrid. United are monitoring one of the league’s most in-demand attackers, and Madrid are keeping a close eye on one of England’s best-known full backs as they plan their next wave of recruitment.
