The Premier League is close to securing an extra place in next season’s Champions League after a strong run of results in the league phase of UEFA’s revamped competitions.

Under UEFA’s new format, two additional Champions League spots will be awarded based on association club coefficients, which reward the overall performance of clubs from each domestic league across Europe this season. Those places go to the two best-performing leagues.

England’s clubs have made an impressive start in Europe and the Premier League is now on the verge of finishing the campaign with one of those two bonus berths, with the points gathered in the league phase putting it in a commanding position.

The reveal is clear: with its current coefficient pace, the Premier League is edging towards being rewarded with a fifth Champions League qualification spot for 2025-26 — a major boost in the race for the top five domestically.

While the battle is still being played out across the knockout rounds, England’s early-season European form has put the league in a place where it is now very hard for rivals to catch, leaving the Premier League closing in on an extra seat at Europe’s top table.
