Morocco will remain the host nation for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after confusion involving South Africa led to a brief dispute over the tournament’s organisation.
The situation arose after reports suggested South Africa could take over the hosting duties, creating uncertainty around the competition. However, it has now been clarified that Morocco has not lost the event and will continue with the preparations as planned.
What has been revealed is that the issue was the result of a South African misunderstanding rather than an official change of host by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Morocco’s hosting rights were never formally withdrawn.
With the clarification in place, Morocco stays in charge of staging WAFCON, and the tournament will go ahead under Moroccan organisation.
