Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has confirmed that teenage forward Estevao Willian has been granted extended compassionate leave as he deals with a “really difficult time” away from the pitch.

Rosenior said the club will continue to support the highly-rated youngster and stressed that football is not the priority while he is going through personal matters.

“He’s going through a really difficult time,” Rosenior said, as he provided an update on the Brazilian wonderkid’s current situation.

Estevao, who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents of his generation, has been absent from Chelsea duties as a result of the compassionate leave.

Rosenior added that the club has no intention of putting pressure on the player and will allow him the time and space he needs, with his welfare coming first.

Chelsea have not set a date for Estevao’s return, with Rosenior making clear the focus remains on supporting the teenager until he is ready to come back.
