Medical issue derailed Mateta’s £30m AC Milan move

A medical issue was the key reason Jean-Philippe Mateta’s proposed £30 million move to AC Milan never went through, with the details behind the failed transfer now revealed.

The Crystal Palace striker had been on Milan’s shortlist as they looked to strengthen their attack, and discussions had progressed to the point where a deal was being seriously considered. But the move collapsed before it could be completed, despite Mateta’s profile fitting what the Italian giants wanted.

It has now emerged that a medical concern “spooked” Milan and led them to step away from committing to the transfer. The issue was enough to halt the process and ultimately derail what would have been a major move for the Palace forward.

Mateta remained with Crystal Palace as a result, while Milan turned their attention elsewhere rather than pressing ahead with a deal that carried an element of risk from their perspective.
