Michael Owen believes Manchester United are not far away from returning to the top of English football and has predicted the club could win the Premier League title “in one or two years”.

In a clear message of confidence, the former England striker said United are moving in the right direction and insisted the gap to the best teams can be closed quickly with the right decisions.

“They’re not far away,” Owen said, as he laid out his view that United can be genuine title challengers again in the near future if they get their recruitment right.

Owen also drew up a transfer plan, stressing the importance of smart business rather than wholesale changes. He pointed to the need for targeted signings to strengthen key areas, arguing that a few correct additions can transform a squad faster than many expect.

The revealed prediction comes as United continue to rebuild, with Owen convinced that strong planning in the transfer market is the quickest route back to winning major honours.

Owen’s comments add to growing debate around how soon United can realistically compete for the league again, but his stance was firm: with the right transfer calls, the club can be lifting the Premier League trophy within the next “one or two years”.
