Mathias Pogba has admitted Paul Pogba’s difficult start at Monaco has been “tough for everyone in the family”, saying they expected more from the move.

Paul joined Monaco in the summer in a bid to relaunch his career, but his early form has not matched the hopes around his return to Ligue 1. Those struggles, Mathias says, have been felt at home as well as on the pitch.

“We were expecting better,” Mathias said, speaking about his brother’s situation at Monaco. “It’s tough for everyone in the family.”

Mathias explained that the family had been excited to see Paul back playing regularly and enjoying his football again, but acknowledged that things have not gone to plan so far at the Principality club.

The comments come with Paul still trying to find rhythm and consistency in Monaco colours, with the spotlight firmly on him given his profile and the expectations that followed his arrival.

Mathias added that the family remain supportive, insisting they are behind Paul as he tries to turn it around and deliver the level they know he can reach.
