Antoine Semenyo signing wont save Man City title hopes

Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes have been dealt another major blow, and even a late move for Antoine Semenyo will not change the bigger picture as Pep Guardiola is left counting the cost of a damaging run of draws.

City have dropped too many points in games they would normally expect to win, with their recent sequence of stalemates leaving them playing catch-up in the race at the top. For a team built to control matches and close them out, the repeated failure to turn strong positions into victories has become a defining theme of their campaign.

Guardiola has spoken before about the fine margins in title races, and this season those margins have started to look unforgiving. City’s rhythm has been disrupted, the gaps have not been taken, and the table has reflected it. A run of draws might not sound dramatic in isolation, but over weeks it has steadily undermined their momentum.

That is why any business in the market now, including the signing of Semenyo, feels like it comes too late to rescue their bid for another championship. He adds quality and energy, but City’s issues have been broader than one missing piece in the final third. The points already dropped cannot be recovered, and the pressure has only increased with every game that ends level.

City have also been linked with a move for Marc Guehi, but that pursuit underlines the same reality: they are trying to solve problems in the middle of a title race rather than building from a position of strength. Even if City strengthen, it does not erase the draw-heavy spell that has left Guardiola’s side needing near-perfect results from here.

The frustrating part for City is that their performances have not always matched their results, but title races do not reward nearly moments. For all their control and dominance in phases, the inability to consistently finish games has cost them dearly, and Guardiola now faces the task of keeping belief alive while knowing the margin for error is all but gone.

As revealed, City’s late transfer activity — including the Semenyo signing and their interest in Guehi — is not expected to be enough on its own to revive their Premier League title charge after that dismal run of draws.
