Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song has placed Morocco at the top of the list of favourites to win the title, saying the Atlas Lions are now the team everyone has to beat.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming challenge, Song pointed to Morocco’s recent rise on the world stage and their historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they finished fourth to become the first African side to reach the semi-finals.

“Morocco are fourth in the world and the number one favourite to win the trophy,” Song said, stressing that the level the Atlas Lions have reached makes them the benchmark in Africa.

The Cameroon coach added that facing a side with Morocco’s quality demands full focus and intensity, noting the strength of their squad and the confidence they carry after their achievements.

Song’s comments come as Morocco continue to build on the momentum of their World Cup success, with the national team viewed as a major contender in the competition.
