Diaz sets unprecedented Africa Cup of Nations record

Morocco's player, wearing a white jersey with green and red accents, celebrates passionately after scoring a goal in a match.

Guinea-Bissau head coach Baciro Candé has moved into the Africa Cup of Nations history books with a record no one has achieved before.

The development was confirmed after his latest appearance on the AFCON touchline, as Candé became the first coach to take charge of his national team in five different editions of the tournament.

Candé first led Guinea-Bissau at the finals in 2017, before returning with the team in 2019, then again in 2021, and in 2023. He has now extended that run to a fifth finals appearance with the same national side.

The milestone underlines his long spell with Guinea-Bissau and the trust placed in him across multiple AFCON cycles, making his record a unique one in the competition’s coaching history.
