Celebrations in Paris after Morocco’s recent win have ended with fines being issued for several public order offences linked to the gatherings.

Authorities in the French capital imposed financial penalties on a number of people for behaviours seen during the street celebrations following the “Lions of the Atlas” victory, after large crowds gathered in different parts of the city.

The measures targeted actions such as creating traffic disruption, using car horns in an excessive way, and other violations recorded during the night as supporters took to the streets to mark the result.

The decision came as part of steps taken to limit disorder during the post-match scenes, with checks carried out in several areas known to attract fans after big fixtures involving Morocco.

The celebrations had quickly spread in Paris after the final whistle, with supporters waving flags, chanting and filling main streets, before the situation led to police intervention and the issuing of fines.

The move highlights the firm approach adopted by local authorities in dealing with similar scenes, even when linked to sporting celebrations, insisting that joy must not turn into breaches of the law.
