Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan will come up against Emers Faye again, almost 20 years after their first heated clash, as their old feud returns to the spotlight.
The story goes back to the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, when Hassan was in charge of the hosts and Faye was part of the Ivory Coast set-up. Their relationship turned tense at the time, with sharp exchanges that stayed in the memory long after the tournament ended.
Now, the two men are set for a new chapter, with Hassan leading Egypt and Faye working on the opposite bench, bringing back the same rivalry in a different setting.
The renewed showdown has drawn attention in Egyptian football circles, not only because of the history between the coaches, but also because both sides are preparing for a major test where discipline and focus will be crucial.
What has been revealed is that the upcoming meeting will be the first direct face-off between Hassan and Faye since that AFCON episode, putting an old conflict back on the agenda after two decades.
