Ivory Coast booked a heavyweight quarter-final meeting with Egypt after a commanding 5-1 win over Burkina Faso in the Round of 16 at the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, on Tuesday.
The Ivorian side took control early and moved in front in the 15th minute through Moise Diarrassouba, setting the tone for a one-sided first half.
Ivory Coast doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when Lassina Traore found the net, giving Burkina Faso a mountain to climb before the break.
The second half followed the same pattern, with Ivory Coast continuing to press and create chances. Inza Yeo made it 3-0 in the 59th minute, before Elisee Kouame added a fourth in the 62nd minute to put the contest out of reach.
Burkina Faso managed to pull one back in the 79th minute through Aziz Keita, but Ivory Coast quickly restored their four-goal cushion as Abdel Rahman Konate scored the fifth in the 83rd minute.
The result confirmed a mouth-watering showdown with Egypt in the quarter-finals, as Ivory Coast continue their push for the trophy in a competition often dubbed the “battle of the ten cups.”
