Liam Rosenior insisted he is “not arrogant” as he faced the media for the first time since being appointed Chelsea head coach, but made it clear he has complete belief in his own ability.
Speaking at his opening press conference, Rosenior struck a confident tone and echoed one of the most famous lines in Chelsea history by stressing: “I am good at what I do.”
The 39-year-old, who has stepped into one of the biggest jobs in English football, said he understands how that message can be received, but pushed back against any suggestion he was getting carried away.
“I am not arrogant,” Rosenior said, as he explained that the mindset needed to lead a club like Chelsea demands conviction, not self-importance.
Rosenior’s language and delivery inevitably drew comparisons with Jose Mourinho’s first spell at Stamford Bridge, when the Portuguese coach made headlines with his own bold introduction to the Premier League.
Rosenior also revealed he is comfortable being judged on results and standards, and that he expects to bring clarity and authority to his role from the start, with his focus firmly on the work ahead at Stamford Bridge.
