Luis Enrique calls PSG Coupe de France loss unfair

Luis Enrique passionately gestures from the sideline during a PSG match, wearing a dark coat against a blurred crowd backdrop.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique said the “result is unfair” after his side suffered a shock Coupe de France defeat to local rivals Paris FC, a loss that ended the Ligue 1 champions’ hopes of winning back-to-back trebles.

PSG went into the tie looking to keep all competitions alive, but they found Paris FC difficult to break down and were punished in a match Enrique later described as “strange”.

After the final whistle, the Spaniard cut a frustrated figure as he assessed a night that saw PSG crash out of the cup despite their expectations and status.

“The result is unfair,” Luis Enrique said, pointing to how the game developed and insisting his side did enough to merit a different outcome.

The defeat means PSG’s treble dream is over this season, with the Coupe de France now no longer available as part of their trophy chase. It also guarantees there will be no repeat of a treble from last year, with Paris FC landing a memorable win over their more decorated neighbours.

PSG must now refocus on their remaining targets, while Paris FC move on in the competition after delivering one of the standout results of the cup so far.
