In a major blow to both his club and national team, Moroccan international striker Youssef En-Nesyri has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury.
The Sevilla FC forward sustained the injury during a training session this week. Medical tests confirmed significant damage to his left knee, requiring immediate surgery and a lengthy rehabilitation process.
This development ends En-Nesyri’s 2023-2024 campaign with Sevilla, where he has been a key figure. More critically, it casts a shadow over his participation in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) released an official statement confirming the news. “Following medical examinations conducted by the national team’s medical staff, it has been confirmed that player Youssef En-Nesyri has suffered a serious injury to his left knee,” the statement read. “The player will undergo surgery in the coming days and will begin a rehabilitation program, which will keep him out of action for several months.”
En-Nesyri’s absence is a significant setback for Morocco. The Atlas Lions, who made history by reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 2022, are heavily reliant on his goal-scoring prowess as they build towards the 2026 tournament. His physical presence and aerial ability have been central to the team’s attacking strategy under coach Walid Regragui.
For Sevilla, losing their primary striker for the final stretch of La Liga and any potential European commitments is a severe handicap as they fight to finish the season strongly.
All focus now shifts to En-Nesyri’s recovery. The coming months will be a race against time for the 26-year-old to regain full fitness and return to competitive action well before the World Cup kicks off in 2026.
