Morocco end Cameroon hopes to reach AFCON semifinals

Morocco's number 10 dribbles past a Cameroonian defender in a tense match, showcasing the intensity of African football competition.

Morocco booked their place in the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals after ending Cameroon’s hopes with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

The match was tight from the start, with both sides cancelling each other out for long spells. Morocco looked more organised in possession, while Cameroon tried to use direct balls and quick moves to break through.

Clear chances were limited in the first half, as the two defences stayed strong and neither goalkeeper was seriously tested. Morocco continued to press with patience, but Cameroon’s back line held firm and kept the score level at the break.

After the restart, the rhythm increased and Morocco began to push higher up the pitch. Cameroon responded with more attacking intent, yet they struggled to find the final pass in the box.

The breakthrough finally arrived when Morocco were awarded a penalty, and Sofiane Boufal stepped up to convert, giving his team a crucial lead.

Cameroon threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, but Morocco stayed composed, defended their advantage and saw the game out to confirm the 1-0 result.

With the win, Morocco move into the AFCON semifinals, while Cameroon’s tournament comes to an end at the quarter-final stage.
