Noni Madueke has finally ended his long wait for a Premier League goal after being credited with an Olimpico in Arsenal’s clash with Leeds United, bringing a 12-month drought to an end.

The winger’s breakthrough came from a corner that curled dangerously towards goal and caused panic at the near post. Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow got a touch but could not keep it out, flapping the ball over the line as it spun into the net.

While it initially looked like Darlow’s mistake might see the goal go down as an own goal, officials awarded it to Madueke, confirming the Arsenal wide man as the scorer.

The decision means Madueke now has a first Premier League goal in a year, with the set-piece strike recorded as a direct corner rather than an own goal by the Leeds keeper.
