Paris police moved quickly on Sunday after warning of a “real threat” linked to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, which is set to be played later in the day at the Stade de France.
According to the Paris Police Prefecture, extra security measures were ordered around the stadium and in nearby areas to ensure safety ahead of the match.
The authorities explained that the decision came after new information was revealed about a genuine risk, prompting an immediate response on the ground.
The AFCON final is expected to attract large crowds, with supporters gathering in and around Saint-Denis and across the Paris region to follow the game.
Police added that the tightened plan includes a stronger presence in key locations and closer monitoring of movement before and after the final, as part of efforts to prevent any incident and keep the event running smoothly.
