Saud Abdulhamid played a key role as Lens pulled off a stunning comeback against Brest on Sunday, turning a two-goal deficit into a dramatic 3-2 victory in their Ligue 1 clash.
The Saudi international right-back came off the bench in the 62nd minute with his side trailing 2-0. Within minutes, the momentum shifted completely.
Brest had taken control early. They struck twice in the first half through Mahdi Camara in the 11th minute and Ludovic Ajorque in the 29th, leaving Lens with a mountain to climb at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
But the home side refused to fold. The comeback began in the 54th minute when M’Bala Nzola pulled one back before Abdulhamid even entered the pitch.
Then came the turning point. In the 74th minute, Abdulhamid delivered a pinpoint cross from the right flank. The ball found Nzola, who headed home his second of the night to make it 2-2.
The stadium erupted. Lens pushed for a winner, and it arrived in the 84th minute. Facundo Medina rose highest from a corner to power a header past the Brest goalkeeper, completing the turnaround.
Abdulhamid’s assist was his first direct goal contribution since joining Lens in the summer of 2024. The 25-year-old has been gradually earning more minutes under manager Will Still, and this performance will only strengthen his case for a starting spot.
Lens climbed to 8th in the table with the win, while Brest remained in 12th after letting a commanding lead slip.
The victory marked the first time Lens had come from two goals down to win a Ligue 1 match since February 2023. For Abdulhamid, it was a moment to remember in a season that continues to build momentum.
