Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly has firmly rejected claims made by his former team-mate Idrissa Gueye that the squad suffered food poisoning during the last Africa Cup of Nations.
Gueye had said Senegal were hit by poisoning while staying in Morocco during the tournament, raising questions over the team’s condition at the time.
However, Koulibaly denied the allegation and insisted there was no such incident. “We were not poisoned in Morocco,” he said, making clear that the players did not face any food-related problems.
Senegal took part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted in Ivory Coast, and went into the competition as defending champions after winning the previous edition.
Koulibaly’s response came as a direct dismissal of the story, underlining that Senegal’s camp was not affected by poisoning during their stay in Morocco.
