Spanish newspaper mocks Algeria Morocco phobia after loss

Nigerian players in green defend against an Algerian attack, with the score at 0-1 during a tense international match.

Spanish newspaper La Razón has mocked what it described as an “Morocco phobia” in Algeria following the latest defeat, saying that “the players admitted failure while politicians sell the illusion of a conspiracy to the people.”

In its commentary, the Madrid-based outlet said the reaction in Algeria went beyond sport, arguing that every setback is quickly turned into a political story in which Morocco is presented as the reason behind the result.

La Razón stressed that, on the pitch, the players themselves acknowledged they did not deliver, but insisted that the public discourse shifted immediately toward claims of plots, instead of focusing on performance and accountability.

The newspaper added that this narrative is repeatedly promoted in official and media circles, portraying Morocco as an ever-present rival and using it as an explanation for failure, while fans are left with “a manufactured story” rather than clear answers.

The report concluded by saying that football results are decided by what happens on the field, and that turning defeats into conspiracy talk only deepens the crisis and distracts from the real work needed to improve.
