Marc-Andre ter Stegen has decided to stay at Barcelona despite falling out of favour under new head coach Hansi Flick.

The Germany international has been linked with a move away after losing his place in Flick’s early plans, with Barcelona looking at changes in the goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.

However, it has now been revealed that ter Stegen has made it clear he wants to remain at Camp Nou and fight for his spot, rather than push for a transfer. The 32-year-old’s decision is a major one for Barcelona as Flick shapes his squad and competition for places increases.

Ter Stegen has been one of Barca’s key figures in recent seasons, but his situation shifted after Flick’s arrival, with the coach reportedly preferring other options in goal. Even so, the goalkeeper has chosen continuity, backing himself to regain his status as first choice.

Barcelona now face a balancing act as they manage their goalkeeping plans, with ter Stegen’s stance removing one obvious exit route and ensuring the battle for minutes will be one of the key stories of Flick’s first campaign in charge.
